Entertaining space for young professional

Location:
Bramford Road, Wandsworth SW18
Site:
Small concrete back garden.
Brief:

To design an outdoor room, to be used by young professional male, with connection to kitchen for entertaining.

Challenges:

Fitting elements required to small outside space.
Thick concrete base and uneven walls.

Design Response:

We first noted all the elements required for the outdoor room, ie seating, firepit, storage, cooking, cupboards, feeling of space and inside-out flow.

The solution was found with a cohesive and tightly knit palette of materials, tones and colours.

Using porcelain tiles and matching setts, cedar battens, bespoke mirrors to create the illusion of space, artificial green wall sections for low maintenance, we combined these materials to create comfortable but stylish indoor-out feel.

Other details were planting, which whilst the client wanted a low maintenance scheme, he still required a sense of ‘garden’ and this brief was fulfilled with beautiful multi stem silver birch and woodland underplanting on the shady side of the garden.

Three feature pots with pittosporum, granite firepit surround and side rests, tiled in matching porcelain setts backsplash to BBQ, finished what was an extremely detailed but pleasingly ‘uncomplicated’ garden.
